What We Believe

In the words of the classic Lutheran summary of faith, we believe that we are saved ‘by grace, for Christ’s sake, through faith’ (see Ephesians 2:8). In other words, there is nothing we can do to earn God’s favour or to gain eternal life. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus Christ has won all this and more for us. We also believe that only the Bible is the source of Christian inspiration and teaching.  As God’s saved and redeemed people, we express the new life we have in Christ through worship, service, giving and love of our neighbours.  Our mission as God’s people is “Celebrating life in Jesus, Growing in faith, Sharing his love.”

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bundaberg, is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA), and adheres to the LCA’s doctrinal teachings.  As Lutherans, we also have a special relationship with Lutheran Churches across the world.
